Cardan Joints or Hooke joints? The Cardan joint was invented by Gerolamo Cardano in the 15th century, or at least the gimbal mountings that a modern day Universal joint contains. The Cardan joint gimbals are what we see today in the cross or bearings cross of a universal joint, the actual universal joints themselves were […]

Universal joint is a 3 piece coupling unit, that works at high torque, medium speed and medium levels of misalignment.
Uni joint usually can be used at a maximum of 8° misalignment, but anything above this will cause premature wear and means replacement of the bearings.
Uni joints also have 2 input and output yokes that are areas of concern as they have a tendency to break especially when high torque is applied.
The Twin Spring Coupling can run at 15°, have no internal components to maintain or replace and as a one piece design means no broken yokes.
Block and Pin Universal joints verses Twin Spring Couplings – no maintenance power transmission couplings. In the world of universal joints there are only two versions, the old block and pin and the newer needle bearing u joints. Block and Pin universal joints are over 100 years old Block and Pin u-joints was originally patented […]
Ruland Uni joints Uni joints like all universal joint manufacturers all revolve around the same design, Ruland is no different so all u joints are the same, some of the internal components are different, the hubs can be made stronger but that also increases the price. The universal joint is all the same whether a […]
Spicer Universal joints vs a bearing free, flexible alternative. Spicer Uni joints design are broken into two different offerings With 2 models both use needle bearing in the bearing cross, one is greaseable, the other is not as it is called a permanently greased. The universal joint is all the same whether a friction bearing […]
Lovejoy coupling uni joints The flexible shaft coupling we will discuss today is the universal joint. Originally invented in the 1683 by Robert Hooke the Hooke joint became the universal joint when patented in 1905 by Clarence Spicer. The Spicer joint then with Spicer’s business partner Charles Dana turned into the current day Dana Holdings. […]
TSC Flexible shaft couplings to replace U joints & Jaw couplings The TSC flexible shaft couplings use a set of springs to be able to flex and transfer torque, this makes them more flexible than a standard u-joint so there is no need for bearings which require the constant greasing a. to make sure the […]
Coupling solutions replace Lovejoy Universal Joints, Jaw couplings and other couplings. With the 24/7 demands on industrial couplings especially now with the COVID 19 virus meaning less service people and OEM MRO supplies are available, the service manager of these industrial companies have decisions to make. How do I get the most out of the […]
