Jaw Coupling – Jaw type coupling, are an elastomeric coupling also called a Spider Jaw Coupling that being a 3 piece design, two hubs and a insert or “spider”. Its job is to run at high speed but low angle of misalignment, anything outside of the 1° it starts to wear out the  SOX, Buna-N, Urethane spider.

The Hytrel or Bronze spider inserts can only run at 1/2°. The spider inserts job is also to absorb vibration. So with the hub jaws being compressed all the time, this compression means the insert needs to be replaced as the compression means increased vibration which can damage attached equipment.

Our coupling with its twin torsion springs at low angles of misalignment it can run at the same high speeds, with higher torque and the same twin springs absorb vibration without the need for a insert.

Universal Joint –

Universal Joints  – U joints have either a friction bearing or needle bearings in the center of the joint to allow the joint to flex.

Commonly used in Automotive, Industrial, farming and mining industries with applications in many more industries. Broken into 2 types, block and pin and needle bearing.

Block and Pin’s max speed is 1800 rpm, so used more in farming, mining and some industrial applications, its low and slow means it cannot flex very much (more than most other couplings) and has a reasonable rpm for most machinery.

The Needle bearing is used alot in Auto and Industrial due to its increased flexibility and higher speed (7000 rpm) makes it a better application for increased turning and wheel travel needed in automobiles and the high speed industrial application needed for todays modern machinery like material handling equipment, conveyor belts are an example and their 24/7/365 up time

Spring Coupling – flexible but very low speed and low torque

Spring Coupling – The spring coupling has a design similar to the beam coupling. A one piece design with a spring and two hubs. It has a low torque capacity but can run at high speeds and can only work in a single direction and has a misalignment angle of 4°. Lovejoy Uniflex coupling is a good example of a spring coupling.

Elastomeric Coupling

A variation on the jaw coupling, its bigger size and larger internal elastomeric cushion or spider, makes it slightly more flexible than the jaw coupling but its used in tough environments, mining industrial are the main two as its has no delicate components to wear out or be contaminated by debris
