Spider Performance.

Spider Performance

Hytrel is a flexible elastomer designed for high torque and high temperature operations. Hytrel can operate in temperatures of -60° to 250° F (-51° to 121° C) and has an excellent resistance to oil and chemicals. Not recommended for cyclic or start/stop applications.

Elastomers in Compression.

Elastomers in Compression

Lovejoy offers four types of elastomer designs to allow for additional flexibility in addressing specific application requirements. One piece designs are used in the “L” and “AL” models (referred to as spiders) and multiple part “load cushions” are used in the “C” and “H” model couplings. The load cushions are in sets of 6 to 14 pieces depending on coupling size.

Solid Center Spider

The solid center design is commonly used design when shafts of the driver and driven equipment can be kept separate by a standard gap

Open Center Spider

The open center design allows for the shafts of the driver and driven to be positioned within a short distance
Open center spiders offer shaft positioning flexibility but have a lower RPM capacity (1,750 RPM maximum for NBR, 3,600 maximum for Urethane/Hytrel®)

Cushions

Used exclusively for the C and H Type couplings
Load cushions are held in place radially by a steel collar which is attached to one of the hubs

Snap Wrap Flexible Spider

Design allows for easy removal of the spider without moving the hubs
Allows for close shaft separation all the way up to the hubs maximum bore
Maximum RPM is 1,750 RPM with the retaining ring, but if used with the LC Type (with collar) the normal RPM rating of the coupling applies
Style is available in NBR and Urethane only, and in limited sizes

Lovejoy L-AL 090-095 Open Center Type Hytrel Jaw Coupling Elastomer.

This Lovejoy open center type jaw coupling elastomer replaces open center elastomers on Lovejoy jaw style flexible coupling assemblies and is made of thermoplastic polyester elastomer (Hytrel) for strength, flexibility and heat resistance.

The open center design allows for the shafts of the driver and driven to be positioned within a short distance of each other but has a lower RPM capacity than solid center elastomers. It can operate in temperatures ranging from -60 to 250 degrees F (-51 to 121 degrees C).

Lovejoy jaw style couplings are a type of flexible coupling suitable for use in various industrial power transmission applications such as compressors, blowers, pumps, conveyors, mixers, and gear boxes, among others.

Flexible couplings are used to link two rotating shafts that are not aligned in order to transmit the rotational power, known as torque, from one shaft to the other. Most flexible couplings consist of two hubs and a middle assembly; each hub attaches to a shaft while the middle assembly flexes between the hubs to accommodate the misalignment of the two shafts.

Shaft misalignments are generally either parallel or angular and cause complications to transmitting rotational power from one shaft to another in the form of stresses, loads, vibrations, and other forces, which vary from one type of misalignment to another.

Flexible couplings are used in a broad range of applications, such as in motor vehicles, conveyors, escalators, agricultural, forestry and mining equipment, aeronautics, robotics and space exploration, among others.

Lovejoy manufactures flexible couplings, universal joints, variable speed drives and various other transmission and mechanical power products. Their products meet the standards of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN), the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Gear Manufacturers Association (AGMA), the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) for quality assurance.

The company, founded in 1900, is based in Downers Grove, IL.
