Couplings in the agricultural industry have a number of issues to contend with, annual maintenance, constant greasing, hostile environment, replacement components, downtime during critical times of the year. Twin Spring Coupling offers something different.
It replaces the entire farming U joint, yokes, propeller/cross bearings everything, with a simple one piece design.

Designed with no internal components like bearings, means our coupling is truly maintenance free, making it impervious to water, mud, dust, dirt and other contaminants. This saves time and on annual maintenance bills.
The universal joint is offered in 2 types, Block and pin or Friction bearing and Needle bearing. These two versions both require maintenance and both have limitations.
Block and Pin or Friction bearing u-joints are limited by the speed they can be used at and the maximum angle they can be used at, in these uni joints, its 25 degrees, anything more will lead to vibration and wearing of the pins.
The other downside is the constant greasing, the rudimentary design means with speed and increased angle of usage means the creation of heat which lead to a early failure. It is recommended they are greased every 8 hours or 1-2 days.
Needle bearings wear another way, while more flexible (35 degrees) and can run at high speeds, they too need to be greased every 250 hours or less and are more expensive.
The thing in common both types of universal joints have is that both needle bearings or block and pin need to be replaced as the angle of use means the bearings wear and will fail if not replaced.
Do that every year or two plus the labor required to constant grease and also replace the worn bearings, adds up over the life span of the uni joint.
Outside of that there is another factor in the lifespan and maintenance of the uni joint, that is the Yokes, that hold the bearings. The yokes are cast iron and very strong except where the part that the bearing cross fits into.
This is an area which can crack especially if the equipment the Uni joint is running either hits something (in farming that can be rocks, trees, uneven ground etc.) the shock coming back from the equipment focuses on that tiny part of the bearing cross and that how these yokes can crack.
Cracked yokes means the Universal joint needs to be removed, disassembled and the yoke replaced. This means more downtime and the replacement of the yoke needs to be purchased.
The other aspect of the bearing cross is the availability of them as well, if they aren’t in the farm supply store then the machinery cannot be used until they are replaced.

By being a one piece design also means Twin Spring Coupling wont break like the yokes do in traditional farming uni joints. The yokes while substantial where they connect to the input/output shafts are a lot smaller where they connect to the universal bearing cross.
This makes it a weak point and with the tough work they experience farming are prone to cracking which means the yoke will have to be replaced meaning it has to be removed and wait for the new yoke to arrive and then reinstallation, which is both time and money.
